Question of Protective Custody

Base on what you learned in class pertaining to classification systems, do you believe inmates who are incarcerated for committing serious crimes that makes them more susceptible to becoming victims of violence while incarcerated should be allowed to refuse protective custody or closed custody housing? Most of all, do you believe these inmates should be isolated from the general population for the duration of their incarceration even if they are serving life sentences?
